Transportation
Highways
New York State Route 12 is a major north-south corridor that runs from Utica
in the north to Binghamton in the south and provides easy access to the NYS Thruway,
Interstate 81, 88, 86 and State Route 20. The County of Chenango operates a highway
system of approximately 304 miles, which networks with State and Interstate highways
and makes traveling to our state government center in Albany an easy commute.
Air
Norwich and Greene in Chenango County and Hamilton in Madison County all have
airport access. The Lt. Warren Eaton Airport located in Norwich features full
charter services, full service maintenance, and jet and aviation fuel sales. Larger
airports within an hour's drive include the Binghamton Regional Airport in Binghamton,
the Oneida City Airport in Utica, and the Hancock International Airport in Syracuse.
Rail
Rail transportation is for freight only, and is served by the NY Susquehanna
& Western Railroad and the Delaware and Hudson Railway.
Public Transit
Public bus transportation is operated by Coach USA and runs daily around the
county offering affordable transportation. Shortline buses run every day from
Binghamton to Utica on State Route 12 and have stops along the way. Greyhound
Bus Lines also makes runs each day in the area. In addition, DIAL-A- RIDE provides
transportation in those areas that do not have fixed route stops. Private taxi
and limousine services are also available.
