Exhibit Opening: Chenango County in the Great War
Event DescriptionJoin CCHS in recognizing the 100th anniversary of World War I, and the many local men and women who served during the conflict that defined generations of lives.
This exhibit details Chenango County's many roles during WWI, profiles soldiers who served, and celebrates the founding of the American Legion and the many ways in which the legion serves as a fundamental part of our communities.
Aaron Noble, Senior Historian and Curator of Military and Political History at the New York State Museum will be speaking on “A Spirit of Sacrifice: New York State in the First World War” beginning at 1:00pm.
To study the history of New York State in World War I is to understand the American experience during that conflict. New York State surpassed all others during the First World War in regards to men, money, and materiel provided to the war effort. Noble will discuss the Empire State’s pivotal role in the American war effort.
